It’s difficult to contain my excitement about the planning process which is currently underway at the Naperville Cultural Center to launch the Naperville Fusion Summer Music Festival in 2007. The goal of the Festival is to bring together a fusion of original musical talent in the genres of classical, jazz and world music to downtown Naperville as a new summer tradition. Naperville fusion will explore the universal language of music in a celebration of culture.
To me, the festival exemplifies a long-term vision I have for Naperville creating a regular summerlong outdoor musical festival to rival that of Ravinia in the North Shore suburbs. In my mind, Naperville Fusion is a great big first step.
While there are many indivdiuals participating on the planning committee, I don’t want to attempt to acknowledge everyone for their contributions for fear of missing someone, but will say that the Cultural Center’s Executive Director, Michelle LeBlanc, has been leading the charge. In addition, Naperville’s own music man, Pete Ellman of Ellman Music, and Donald Smith of Brookdale Music have joined on as early supporters and organizers. I believe it is important that we get all of Naperville’s musical institutions on board.
For those of you interested in supporting or becoming involved, there is a terrific fundraiser being planned for September 20, 2006 at Meson Sabika on Aurora Ave., which will provide a taste of Naperville Fusion through a series of unique performances occuring throughout the grounds and upstairs rooms wtihin Meson Sabika. In addition, there will be special tapas offerings, cocktails, and a special silent auction with Festival planners on hand to give you an inside look into the inaugural Naperville Fusion Summer Music Festival in 2007. This is a tremendous opportunity for everyone to not only support the cultural arts in Naperville but be on the ground floor of a new summer tradition which will continue to expand in years to come.
